Accessorizing with hair decor and hats.

Hats went through a hard time a few years ago. Ladies stopped wearing them to church and men went through a phase where all they’d wear was a Stetson! Sadly, hats have become less worn, compared to the 40’s and 50’s when they were everyday accessories.Today, few milliners are making hats; most are selling ready made items instead of the fabulous affairs seen at the Derby or weddings. Can that be changed? Of course! Women still love the idea of accessorizing with a hat, and truth be told, it does finish off a special outfit. Take a look in the local department stores in the malls. Most will have a huge selection. Don’t be afraid to try on all shapes and styles. Not everyone can wear hats, so if they don’t look great, try another, or even forget the idea and go for hair decor instead. Hats are a wonderful accessory for weddings, tea parties, casual walks on the beach or in town, and even the simplest can be made to catch the eye.

Your hat should match the outfit. A hat with feathers and floral goodies does not go with jeans and a sweater! Try wearing a beret or cap with jeans and pants; leave the feathers for a grander affair. A summer dress is best accessorized with a straw hat and flowers. A dress and jacket worn at a more formal affair is a good match for a simple pillbox or a small hat with a narrow brim. If it’ looks too dull, add a pin or brooch to jazz it up.For having fun with hair accessories, check your mall accessory stores. They usually have good prices, as they buy in bulk for stores nationwide. A colorful scrunchie round a ponytail or a clip-on flower, all make a great look. Buy some barrettes with shoelace decorations, or a headband to hold hair back and give a different look.
